The invention relates to a new process for lining electric steel furnaces comprising, in their wall areas, a wear-resistant lining made of carbon-containing magnesia or dolomite brick. According to the present invention, a compound consisting of: 100 parts by weight of magnesia 0.5 to 5.0 parts by weight of green chrome oxide 0.5 to 3.0 parts by weight of clay 0.5 to 3.0 parts by weight of alkali metal metaphosphate or alkali metal polyphosphate 0.2 to 1.5 parts by weight of alkali metal bisulphate 8 to 10 parts by weight of water is applied, by spraying or spreading, to the cold, clean surfaces in predetermined areas subject to a high rate of wear, and is solidified by immediate starting up of the electric furnace. This reduces the need to frequently repair the lining and can substantially shorten the time required to line the furnace. |
