The sealed expansion joint comprises a preformed flexible membrane (1) bearing on each of the supports (2, 2') subjected to expansion. Elements (3, 3') for mechanically protecting the said membrane are attached to the supports (2, 2'), each covering at least half of the space (4) separating the said supports. Screws (5, 5') fix the membrane (1) and the mechanical protection elements (3, 3') to the said supports (2, 2') in a non-dismantleable manner. A strip (6) of compressible material permanently seals the narrow space separating the said mechanical protection elements (3, 3'). Such a joint can be adapted to complex structures comprising in particular salient and reentrant angles. <IMAGE>
