The invention relates to waste-water purification plants. The apparatus according to the invention for the electrochemical cleaning of waste waters has a settling chamber (1) with an outlet port (2) for clear water, an electrocoagulation chamber (6) which is connected to the settling chamber (1) and contains soluble electrodes (7) and inlet ports (8 and 9) for effluent and electrolyte, respectively. The apparatus is further equipped with a pipeline (12) for returning clear water whose purity level falls short of a given value from the settling chamber (1) into the electrocoagulation chamber (6) for renewed cleaning, and with a purity-level controller. The purity-level controller has, electrically coupled to each other, a purity-level analyser (13), a control unit (14) and servomechanisms (15, 16 and 17) which interrupt the outflow of clear water and the inflow of effluent and clear water having a purity level falling short of a given value. <IMAGE>
