<p>This invention relates to new tetrahydroquinoline compounds of the general formula (I): < IMG > (I) wherein R1 is selected from the group comprising a straight or branched chain alkyl having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl having from 3 to 6 carbon atoms, phenyl, phenyl substituted by halogen atom, phenyl C1-6 alkyl, phenyl C1-6 alkenyl, pyridyl, and pyridyl substituted by one or two halogen atoms; R2 and R3 are the same or different and each is selected from the group comprising hydrogen atom, hydroxy and alkoxy having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, provided that at least one of R2 or R3 is different from hydrogen; R4, R5, R6 and R7 are the same or different and each is selected from the group comprising hydrogen atom and alkyl having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms; and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof. These compounds are prepared by a process which comprises reacting a compound of the general formula (II): < IMG > (II) wherein R2, R3, R4, R5, R6 and R7 are defined hereinbefore, or a reactive derivative thereof, with a compound of the general formula R1-COOH or a reactive derivative thereof. These compounds and their salts are active on the cardiocirculatory system and are useful as cardiotonics.</p> |
