The frames (3) of the tennis rackets supplied for further machining are provided with unfinished holes (2) for fitting the stringing. Since these holes (2) would damage the stringing with their sharp edges during play, their interiors must first of all be cleanly ground before the tennis-racket frame (3) is strung. As the device for carrying out said grinding, use is made of a strand (1), e.g. a piece of gut string, which can be pushed into the holes (2), can be drawn back and forwards and is provided, at least on its surface, with an abrasive medium e.g. aluminium-oxide powder. The abrasive powder can, for example, be adhesively bonded on the strand (1). The two ends (5) of the strand (1) can be releasably braced in handles (6) by means of clamping devices (7) and clamping levers (8). A strand (1) provided with aluminium-oxide powder permits the process to be carried out at least ten times more quickly than a strand without abrasive medium, as has been used up until now. <IMAGE>
