PURPOSE:To purify an epoxy compound without deterioration, by subjecting the epoxy compound to contact reaction with metallic sodium in an amount of a specific number of times that of organic chlorine groups as an impurity, and removing the organic chlorine groups as chlorine ions. CONSTITUTION:Metallic sodium powder in a molar amount of 1.0-8.0 times, preferably 2.0-4.0 times that of organic chloride groups and if necessary a reaction assistant, e.g. methyl acetoacetate, preferably an active hydrogen-containing compound in a molar amount of 0.01-1.0 of that of the metallic sodium are added to an epoxy compound, and subjected to contact reaction therewith preferably at 0-60 deg.C to remove the organic chlorine groups as chlorine ions and give the aimed purified epoxy compound.
