IC engine sintered valve tappet - with integral molybdenum rich mixture at cam contact end for better wear resistance

Valve tappet is made by pressing two metal powders in a common mould. The wear-resistant material is a mixture of pure iron and pure molybdenum, and the rest consists of low-alloy iron. Sintering is at not >1350 degrees C is followed, if necessary, by carburising or hardening by quenching and tempering. A simple and low-cost method of producing valve tappets of high strength with an extremely wear-resistant layer at the cam end.
