PURPOSE:A fungicide having higher antibacterial activity than a low-molecular- weight model compound, easily removable by washing with water, comprising a specific polycation having a quaternary ammonium salt structure and a hydroquinone structure in a main chain. CONSTITUTION:A fungicide comprising a polycation having a repeating unit shown by the formula I (R is polymethylene, xylylene, preferably hexamethylene or para-xylylene; X<-> is Cl<-> or Br<->) as an active ingredient. The fungicide has higher antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis, etc. than against Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, etc., it can change freely its structure such as electron charge, hydrophobic nature, etc., so it can has higher antibacterial activity, and shows higher antibacterial activity than a low-molecular-weight model compound shown by the formula II. Since it has further high water solubility, easily removable by washing with water. |
