PURPOSE:To improve sufficiently the contact of quadricyclene with a catalyst and isomerize the quadricyclene to norbornadiene which is an organic photochemical thermal energy storage agent in high conversion in a short time without forming polymers of the raw material, by adding a copper halide which is the catalyst to the quadricyclene, and applying ultrasonic waves to the quadricyclene. CONSTITUTION:A copper halide as a catalyst is added to quadricyclene of formula I or a derivative thereof. Cuprous chloride, cupric chloride, etc. may be cited as the particularly preferred copper halide. Ultrasonic waves are then applied to the quadricyclene under or without heating, preferably for 1-80hr, and 16hr corresponding to the nighttime as a measure to isomerize the quadricyclene to the corresponding norbornadiene of formula II or a derivative thereof. The application temperature is suitably ordinary temperature - about 80 deg.C, but the application can be carried out at up to 200 deg.C oil bath temperature if another bath capable of heating a sample is used in an ultrasonic wave water bath. The output of the ultrasonic waves to be used is up to 15-1,200W. |
