PURPOSE:To obtain a negative electrode having high energy density and good charge-discharge performance by compressing a mixture of metal or alloy which absorbs and releases alkali metal ion, a binder, and a filler which is soluble in solvent, and immersing it in the solvent to dissolve the filler. CONSTITUTION:Metal or alloy (such as Sn-Cd) powder which is absorbs and releases alkali metal ion with charge and discharge, a binder such as polytetrafluoroethylene, and a filler which is soluble in a solvent are kneaded. The mixture is compressed in a desired shape and immersed in the solvent to dissolve the filler. By this process, a porous negative electrode for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is obtained. For example, NaCl powder is used as the filler and water is used as the solvent. The metal or metal alloy is selected from Si, Bi, Cd, In, Sb, Zn, Ag, and Al. Thus, a negative electrode having high reliability and capable of charge and discharge is obtained. |
