PURPOSE:To enhance the resolution of a solid state image sensor, in an interline type two-dimentional charge coupled device, by providing circulating transfer type shift registers between horizontal shift registers and vertical shift registers. CONSTITUTION:An interline type two-dimensional change coupled device has picture elements D11-D14, D21-D24, D31-D34 and D41-D44 comprising diodes. Circulating shift registers CR1-CR4 having charge storing regions C11-C14, C21-C24, C31-C34 and C41-C44, whose number is the same as the corresponding horizontal shift registers and which have the sufficient capacities for storing the signal charges by a specified plurality of times, are arranged between the horizontal shift registers HR and vertical shift registers VR. In the circulating registers, circulating transfer is carried out in synchronization with the horizontal shaft registers as shown by an arrow m2. Therefore, the signal charges of the same picture element, which are transferred by a plurality of times, are integrated and stored at the same position in the circulating register. |
