NEW MATERIAL:The 4-cyano-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorophenyl acrylic acid ester or 4- cyano-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorophenyl methacrylic acid ester of formula (R is methyl or H). USE:It has excellent polymerizability, is useful as a raw material of homopolymer or copolymer and gives various useful fluorine-containing (meth)acrylic acid polymer. PREPARATION:The compound of formula can be prepared easily by reacting 4- cyano-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorophenol or its alkali metal salt with methacryloyl chloride in carbon tetrachloride solvent or by reacting 4-cyano-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorophenol or its alkali metal salt with acryloyl chloride in carbon tetrachloride solvent.
