PURPOSE:The titled additive that contains specific amounts of torulene and carotinoid acids, thus giving eggs of good yolk color, large yolk size, thick albumen and high storability, when it is given to laying hens and being used effectively in feed for poultry, and domestic animals. CONSTITUTION:The objective additive is obtained by adding 10<-4>ppm of torulene and/or carotinoid acid of the formula. The component is obtained from the cells from a microorganism, preferably a yeast such as Rhodossporidium or Rhodotorula. The cells are preferably cultivated by starting irradiation of light of 270-400nm wave length and 500,000-1muW/cm<2> intensity at the stage of logarithmic growth phase. In the cells, more than 300mug/g of component A is contained on the basis of dry cell weight. Further, it is preferred to contain more than 95wt% of component A based on the total weight of carotinoids in the cells.
