<p>PURPOSE:To obtain an alkylcyclopentadiene useful as a raw material for synthetic rubbers and resins and industrial chemicals easily in high conversion, by alkylating a cyclopentadiene catalytically with an oliphatic lower alcohol in the presence of a specific catalyst in the vapor phase. CONSTITUTION:A cyclopentadiene is catalytically alkylated with an aliphatic lower alcohol in the vapor phase in the presence of a catalyst of (A) an alkaline earth metal oxide, hydroxide or carbonate or a mixture thereof with an alkali metal oxide, hydroxide or carbonate or (B) an alkali metal (Group I ) oxide, hydroxide or carbonate or a mixture thereof with an atom or oxide, hydroxide or carbonate thereof in the second - fourth periods of Groups I -VII in the periodic table, preferably in an inert gas atmosphere, e.g. N2, at 200-700 deg.C under ordinary pressure to give the aimed compound. The catalyst is prepared by for example adding water to a material to be a catalyst, kneading the material, drying the kneaded material at 110 deg.C, solidifying the material, pulverizing to adjust the particle size, and firing the resultant powder at 200-1,000 deg.C while introducing N2 gas, etc. thereinto.</p> |
