PURPOSE:To obtain photographic paper having a back coat layer having sufficient water resistance and a photographic emulsion layer on each opposite side of a hydrophobic base material by providing a back coat layer contg. at least gelatin, porous silica, and more than specified amt. (basing on the amt. of gelatin) of a hardening agent for gelatin to a side of a base material opposite to the picture image forming side of the photographic paper. CONSTITUTION:A photographic silver halide layer is formed on one side of a resin coated paper base material coated on both sides with a resin, and a back coat layer contg. at least gelatin, porous silica, and >=3wt% (basing on gelatin) hardening agent for gelatin, is provided to the opposite side of the base material. Suitable proportion of gelatin to the porous silica to be used is 2:1-1:2 by weight, and the suitable amt. of the porous silica to be coated is 0.5-5.0g/m<2>, more pref. 0.7-2.5g/m<2>. Necessary amt. of the hardening agent for gelatin is >=3wt% basing on the amt. of gelatin, but it is preferred to be 5-40wt%. |
