PURPOSE:To aim at facilitaing the incorporation of an automatic tool exchanging device into an NC machine having no tool exchanging device, by gripping a peripheral groove formed in the flange section of a tool with a plurality of rollers pivotally journalled to a V-like shape holding device, and by integrally incorporating both of them together with the use of an engaging member projecting toward the tool from the NC machine. CONSTITUTION:A holding device 37 is positioned in the lower section of a tool storing unit. A holder body 40 is lifted up by a cylinder to allow rollers 52, 52 to grip a desired storing tool. When a tool 41 is inserted into a spindle attaching hole 44 by means of a motor, an engaging member pawl 64 presses the tool 41 against the notch 49 side. Therefore, when a spindle 42 is slightly rotated, the pawl 64 is fitted into the notch 49, and thereafter the tool 41 is rotated integrally with the spindle 42, being guided by rollers 52, 52, 53. Then the rotation of the spindle 42 is stopped after a predetermined time elapses from the intiation of the rotation, and then the holding device 37 is further moved toward the spindle 42 while a fastening rod 59 is rotated to screw a male thread 60 into a female thread 58 so that the attachment of the tool 41 is completed. When the holder body 40 is lowered, a movable member 50 comes off toward the tool 41.
