PURPOSE:To increase the amount of information recorded per given operating period, namely the throughput, by moving a carriage at a higher velocity in a backward stroke (in which heat transfer recording is not conducted) than in a forward stroke in which heat transfer recording is conducted. CONSTITUTION:Heat transfer recording is conducted in the forward stroke in which the carriage 11 is moved toward a detector 24. In this stroke, a low-speed pulse signal is outputted from a pulse-generating circuit 25, while a controlling pulse signal for moving the carriage toward the setector 24 is outputted from a distributing circuit 26, and the carriage 11 is driven by a stepping motor 17. When the carriage 11 reaches the detector 24, a detection signal is sent from the detector 24 to the circuits 25, 26, and the circuit 25 outputs a high-speed pulse signal, while the circuit 26 outputs a controlling pulse signal for moving the carriage 11 toward a detector 23, whereby the carriage 11 is moved at a high velocity toward the detector 23 by the motor 17 in the backward stroke in which heat transfer recording is not conducted. |
