PURPOSE:To enable to inexpensively print in multiple colors with a character as a unit, by controlling printing for each line while replacing a ribbon with a ribbon which have required colors with a character as a unit. CONSTITUTION:A host CPU1 stores a one-page amount of character data into a buffaer 5, stores a line feed amount for each line and ribbon color information into buffers 4, 6 and outputs the number of lines into a register 12 to hold the number in the latter. A CPU2 holds color information for the present printing into a register 9, then into a register 10. In the case of the first line, the ribbon color information in the register 9 is indicated by an indicator 14 through a buffer 8, then the ribbon is replaced by a ribbon for the colors, and printing is conducted. These operations are repeated to print. When printing in the next line, color information for the present printing is held in the register 9, the contents of the registers 9, 10 are compared with each other, and when the contents are the same, printing is conducted by the ribbon fitted, but when the contents are different from each other, the condition is indicated on the indicator 14, and the ribbon is replaced. Accordingly, printing in multiple colors with a character as a unit can be inexpensively conducted by a printer. |
