PURPOSE:To prepare a solid fuel which can be desulphurized effectively in combustion, by mixing crushed residue of final thermal cracking in pertroleum refining, an inorg. binder and water, compression forming the mixt. and performing vacuum carbonization and drying of the formed fuel with a CO2-contg. hot gas. CONSTITUTION:Residue of final thermal cracking in petroleum refining is crushed to an average particle size of 2mm. or smaller and an inorg. binder such as Na2SiO3, Ca(OH)2 and NaOH, a desulphurizing agent and about 10% water are added to it for kneading. The mixt. is compression formed into a solid fuel 2. The solid fuel 2 is placed in a drying oven for heating with a hot gas at 250- 280 deg.C which contains about 10% CO2 and is introduced from an inlet 6 of flue through a flue 8 into smoke tubes 3. At the same time, a high-pressure tubro-fan is operated continuously and a gas feed valve 11 in a flue 10 is opened and closed at a fixed interval to evacuate the drying oven intermittently and produce a carburized and dried solid fuel 2 which leaves SO2 in combustion ash in the form of CaSO3 and Na2SO2.
