PURPOSE:To granulate and deash coal effectively in a continuous process at a high deashing rate and with a good yield, by performing high-speed agitation and then low-speed agitation of an aqueous slurry of pulverized coal while a hydrocarbon binder is added to both high-speed and low-speed mixers. CONSTITUTION:A hydrocarbon binder is added to an aqueous slurry of pulverized coal and the slurry is agitated in a high-speed mixer and then in a low- speed mixer to granulate coal in water. In the high-speed mixer, the binder is added in an amt. which causes start of granulation but does not exceed 25% and in the low-speed mixer, the binder is added in an amt. which makes particle size of granulated coal 0.3mm. or larger. Deposition of granulated coal and formation of scales in the high-speed mixer are prevented and prolonged continuous operation is performed smoothly to produce highly deashed coal effectively with a good yield.
