The invention relates to a device for lifting a railway track, which device is carried between the bogies of a railway machine and consists of a pair of lifting sets 9. Each set 9 comprises a chassis 10 running on the respective rail 4 and supporting a pair of lifting clamps 24, 25 equipped with rotating discs 29 by means of which, under the control of a jack 30, the rail may be grasped under its head, and then lifted by means of a jack 21 while the machine slowly progresses along the track. The clamps 24, 25, separated by a distance greater than the length of the fishplates 32 connecting the consecutive rail lengths, are equipped with individual activating jacks 30 enabling them to be controlled separately and each clamp is designed so that it will be able, by itself, to lift and hold the rail 4 to which it is allocated in a high position. <IMAGE>
