The invention provides a sound-absorbing building element comprising individual sound-absorbing elements which are in the form of double beakers and exhibit two beaker elements one inside the other. A gap is formed between the side walls of the two beaker elements one inside the other, which gap constitutes a sound-absorbing layer of air or gas for the bending vibrations, within the audio-frequency range, of the side walls of the outer and/or inner beaker element; and/or the inner beaker element is smaller in height than the outer beaker element and a neck-shaped or hole-shaped through-opening is provided in the base of the inner beaker element, the cross-sectional area and length of which through-opening are dimensioned in such a manner that the resonant frequency of the Helmholtz resonator, formed by the through-opening, the volume of the inner beaker element and the volume delimited by the outer beaker element and the base of the inner beaker element, is in the audio-frequency range, in particular the same as the frequency of the sound generated by the blades of a fan, a turbine or the like.
