For heating a thread set consisting of synthetic threads, the threads are guided over the contact surface of a heating body, for example a hot galette. If the thread run were slowed or came to a standstill, an overheating and damage of the threads would occur. During braking, therefore, cooling bodies are applied to the contact surface of the heating body. The cooling bodies match the shape of the contact surface, in that they are made essentially congruent or are of flexible design. In addition, the heating of the heating body can be switched off. An active simultaneous cooling of the heating body can also take place.
