In order to manufacture carbon studs as the leads from the positive electrodes in dry batteries, carbon dust mixtures are pressure-moulded, without the conventional addition of binders such as tar or bitumen, under high pressure to form studs (green mouldings) and these are then sintered within seconds by inductive heating in a high-frequency alternating field. A precondition for applying inductive heat in this way is an electrical minimum conductivity of the carbon material of approximately 0.02 S (siemens) at room temperature, which is achieved by appropriate compaction of the mouldings during pressing.
