<p>A method of controlling a copying machine which is capable of continuously and efficiently copying an original on an equal scale, on an enlarged scale or on a reduced scale. When an original is to be continuously copied in an exposing apparatus by reciprocally driving a travelling optical scanner (21) at a scanning speed determined by the copying magnification, a stop setting time is determined beforehand in order to shorten the prescanning section in which the traveling optical scanner (21) is accelerated to a predetermined speed, for example, by reducing the scanning speed of the traveling optical scanner (21) depending upon the copying magnification, so that the traveling scanner is brought to a halt within reduced periods of time. When the original is to be copied on an equal scale, the travelling scanner (21) is decelerated at the moment when it has returned to a predetermined position, and is halted. When the original is to be copied on a reduced scale, the traveling scanner (21) is decelerated when a predetermined period of time has passed from the moment at which the travelling scanner (21) has returned to a predetermined position, and is halted.</p> |
