The invention proposes a spot-type disc brake with a brake calliper which overlaps the edge of a brake disc and is displaceable parallel to the axis of the brake disc on a guide element. In each phase of a braking operation, circumferential sources acting on the brake shoes are in equilibrium and thus no torque transverse to the friction faces of the brake disc, which would cause oblique wear of the brake shoes, is imposed on the brake calliper. This is achieved by virtue of the fact both brake shoes are supported on the brake calliper against circumferential forces and that the brake calliper is held on the guide element in a manner which allows it to be swivelled about an axis lying in the centre plane of the brake disc.
