NEW MATERIAL:2,8,4,9-Tetrahydroxy-7-methoxy-6-methyl-1H-phenalen-1-one of formula. USE:A drug having specific phosphodiesterase(PDE)-inhibiting activity to cyclic adenosine monophosphate (C-AMP), and useful as a preventive and remedy for diseases caused by the metabolic abnormality of C-AMP, e.g. arteriosclerosis, hypertension, bronchial asthma, diabetes, cancer, etc., especially useful as a remedy for hypertension. PREPARATION:A microbial strain, Aspergillus sp. No.2970 (FERM-P No.7890) having specific PDE-inhibition activity to C-AMP, belonging to Aspergillus genus, and separated from the soil collected in Kochi City, Japan, is cultured in a common medium for the culture of microorganisms, preferably at 4-9pH and 25-37 deg.C for 5-20hr without agitation, and the compound of formula is separated and purified from the cultured product. |
