PURPOSE:To facilitate pagination at an arbitrary position, by a method wherein numeral data are generated in accordance with a counted number of pages, and are written into a page memory at a predetermined address before executing recording of each one-page amount of information. CONSTITUTION:The content of a page counter provided in a working RAM12 in a CPU5 is counted up by 1. Next, the content of the page counter, namely, the number of pages is decimalized. Then, the number of digit places of the decimalized number of pages is counted, and the content of a number-of-pages address counter provided at another part in the RAM12 is set to a predetermined offset value. A figure representing a page number is converted into internal code signals by one digit place at a time, and is written into a page memory 7 or 8 at the address designated by the number-of-pages address counter. In addition, the content of a number-of-pages counter is advanced, and the operation is repeated a number of times conforming the number of digit places.
