PURPOSE:To prepare uniformly dense and easy-to-handle compression preformed coal blocks for a coke oven, by forming raw material coal in specified pairs of molds under horizontal pressure. CONSTITUTION:The preforming machine consists of a pair of narrow fixed molds 23, 24 standing upright in parallel with each other, a pair of broad movable molds 13, 14 standing almost upright, of which the top side moves a greater distance than the bottom side, and flat molds 26, 27 which slide horizontally to close upper and lower planes of a space formed by the above two pairs of molds (15-18 and 19-22 are preforming cylinders). The flat mold 27 is closed while the flat mold 26 is opened and the movable molds 13, 14 are kept aloof (the distance between the two molds is greater at the top side than at the bottom side). Raw material coal is fed into the formed space from a hopper 12 and the flat mold 26 is closed. Then movable molds 13, 14 are made to come nearer; finally they are in parallel with each other, to compress the raw material coal and produce a formed coal block 5c of uniform quality.
