4-Phenyl-1,3-benzo-dioxin-2-carboxylic acid derivs. - useful for treating hyperlipidaemia, cardiac insufficiency and angina

(A) Benzodioxin derivs. of formula (I) in racemic and optically active forms, and isomer mixts. and when R1=H their alkali, alkaline earth, Al, NH4 and amine salts, and when R1=dialkylaminoalkyl their acid addition salts are new:- In the formula, R1 is H, 1-5 C alkyl, 2,3-dihydroxypropyl, (2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)-methyl, or dialkylaminoalkyl (with 1-4C alkyls). R2=H or 1-5C alkyl; R3 = H, 1-5C alkyl or phenyl; and R4 and R5 are each H or halo. (I) are useful for treating chronic and acute hyperlipidaemia, cardiac insufficiency of atheromatous origin and chronic angina. The usual oral adult dose is 0.05-1g/day.
