PURPOSE:To provide a titled alloy which consists of Nd, a rare earth element except Nd and Ni, is expressed by the specific general formula, releases hydrogen of a high pressure at a low temp. and has good plateau and relatively small hysteresis. CONSTITUTION:A hydrogen-occluding material consisting of a rare earth is expressed by the general formula (NdxRy)Ni5 (where R; the rare earth element or alloy except Nd, x; 0.4-1.0, y; 0.0-0.6) and contains Nd at a high rate. Said alloy releases hydrogen of about 6-20atm, has good plateau and hysteresis and is usable practicably as a driving power source for a static compressor. La, Ce, Sm, Py, Y, Gd, Dy, etc. are used for the rare earth element R except Nd. A high hydrogen releasing pressure is obtd. with the above-mentioned alloy at a low temp. when R is not contained therein and at a middle temp. of about 50-60 deg.C when R is contained therein. The hydrogen releasing pressure decreases and the alloy is not practicably usable when the content of R exceeds 0.6.
