摘要 PURPOSE:To improve the resolution of a rotary angle and to enlarge the gap between a magnetic recording medium and a magnetic head, by constituting the magnetic head by MR elements, which are arranged at every (n+1/4)lambda or at every (n+3/4)lambda. CONSTITUTION:When a magnetic recording medium 1 and MR elements 41-44 at a 3/4lambda pitch are located at a position indicated in the Figure, an output voltage of Q0 is obtained. When the end surface of the magnetic recording body is moved to the right by lambda/4, an output voltage of Q1 is obtained. When the end surface is further moved to the right by lambda/4, the output voltage become Q2. Then an output B of a comparator is changed by one cycle. When the end surface is further moved to the right by lambda/2, the output voltage is changed to Q4 through Q3. After all, the output voltage of the comparator is changed by two cycles owing to the movement of the magnet recording medium 1 by one bit length lambda. When the same recording medium is used, the resolution of the rotary angle, which is more precise than the conventional medium by twice, can be obtained.
