<p>PURPOSE:To implement compact configuration, by storing the names of places and their geographical coordinates beforehand, specifying the departing point and the destination by key operations, marking and displaying the departing point and the destination from the coordinates at a suitable scale, and displaying the present position of the vehicle together. CONSTITUTION:Place data comprising the names of places and their position data are stored in a place data memory means 106. A plurality of unit characters are assigned to a plurality of character keys 107. The place names are inputted by a place name inputting means 108 so that every unit character constituting the desired place name corresponds to the character key. Based on the combination of the lines of the unit characters, which is determined by the sequence of the character key operation, the applicable name is retrieved by a place-name retrieving means 109. When a plurality of the names are applicable, the user selects the name. Thus the position data is read out and set. The departing point and the destination are set, and the distance between two points and the position relationship are judged based on the position data of the departing point and the destination and displayed by the marks. The marks indicating the present position of the vehicle is displayed on a screen at a scale determined by this method.</p> |
