PURPOSE:To execute easily decision by discriminating a pointer obtained from a different code string and writing its result on a pointer area of one place, when decoding a signal to which error detecting processing by a product code has been performed. CONSTITUTION:A register 8 for holding the contents of a pointer of the previous time is provided on an operating logic 6 for forming a C2 pointer. Also, for instance, in case of executing an error correction in a code string of symbols D1B-D10B, its result and a result of a code string of symbols D1A-D10A of the previous time are discriminated. This discrimination result is written on a C1 pointer area DP of one place in two code strings. Accordingly, for instance, in case of reading out data D1, decision can be executed easily by only reading out two contents of DP1 of the C1 pointer and DQ1 of the C2 pointer.
