PURPOSE:To prevent a tap from colliding against a work, by providing a movable rod, which slidably moves in the axial direction of a head, and holding a clutch member in a locked position when the main unit of the head is not connected to a drive unit. CONSTITUTION:A tapping multi spindle head 3, replaceably mounted to and removed from a drive unit 7, provides a movable rod 43 slidably moving in the axial direction of the head 3, holding a clutch member 38 in an unlocked position through the movable rod 43, pressed to be moved by the unit 7, under a condition that the main unit of the multi spindle head 3 is connected to the drive unit 7, while holding the clutch member 38 in a locked position by a spring 42 under a condition that the main unit of the head 3 is not connected to the drive unit 7. Accordingly, the clutch member, being urged to the locked position by the spring under the condition when the tapping multi spindle head is separated from the drive unit, enables the improvement of tapping efficiency to be promoted by preventing a tap from colliding with a work when the tapping multi spindle head is quickly fed further increasing a quickly fed quantity to a maximum limit. |
