A vertically movable turntable apparatus for a video disk player has a center spindle entirely contained in a recess below the casing when the turntable is in the non-reproducing position. The apparatus comprises a chassis and a turntable, having a diskmounting surface and a recess at the central portion. The turntable is rotatably supported on the chassis and moves vertically between one position, where the disk-mounting surface is located below the disk inlet opening, and a second position, where the surface is located above the opening. A center spindle has a surface to regulate the disk mounting position, and is supported coaxially with an axis of rotation of the turntable.
