PURPOSE:To suppress an increase in cost by storing sound data to be transmitted in a transmission secondary memory, storing a received sound data in a reception secondary memory and synthesizing the sound through the reception secondary memory. CONSTITUTION:Sound data whose characteristic is extracted by analyzing a sound signal waveform from a microphone 10 is transmitted to a modulator 4 via a buffer memory 3 or stored once in a secondary storage device 12 and then transmitted to the modulator while being read at a desired time, and then transmitted to the line. On the other hand, the sound data coming from the opposite party is stored in a buffer memory 7 and after it is given to a sound synthesizer 14 or stored once in a secondary storage device 13, it is transmitted to the sound synthesizer 14. The sound synthesizer 14 synthesizes the sound based on the data and restores it to conventional sounds.
