PURPOSE:To detect an article at a high speed by detecting the border or the like of a subject from an original picture and its reflected picture of the subject through a camera which are obtained by alternate irradiation of lamps. CONSTITUTION:The lamps 2, 3 are alternately lighted up on the basis of a periodical signal of ''0'' or ''1'' applied from a lighting control device 7 and a selector 6 is alternately switched. On the basis of lighting of the lamps 2, 3, a picture photographed by the camera 1 is inputted to an arithmetic unit 8 through the selector 6 and an inverted picture inverted by an inverter 5 is inputted to the arithmetic unit 8 through the selector 6. The arithmetic unit 8 finds out the sum of picture elements of the uninverted original picture and the inverted picture and detects and outputs an edge including the border or the like of the subject. |
