For the production of a radially directed annular groove in the region of the parameter of an annular plate or of a ring (collar) or the like made from sheet metal, an annular marginal portion 6 of the radial marginal region is first pushed aside axially and then this region is turned over, thereby imparting to it a substantially cylindrical shape. An annular groove 4, having a sharp-edge transition between its bottom 11 and its side wall 12, is thus obtained.
