In a process for laminating two or more curved sheets of glass with a thermoplastic film as an interfacial layer, the layers are combined into a coherent laminate (A) by a preliminary treatment in which the layers are supported on a flexible impermeable sheet suspended like a hammock from parallel bars which can be adjusted for the distance between them and opt. their lengths. The supported laminate is overlaid with another flexible impermeable sheet large enough to extend beyond the borders of (A) and provide a lap joint at least 25 mm wide on the upper surface of the supporting sheet. A vacuum is applied via a duct through the supporting sheet and grooves in its surface. The cover sheet pref. has a coarse matt surface. The vacuum is applied for at least a min. at ambient temp. before the combination is heated sufficiently to induce bonding within the border zones of the laminate without causing thermal damage to either the flexible sheets or the laminating films. The laminate is then transferred to a conventional oven to fully fuse the interlaminar layer.
