PURPOSE:To easily use a degausser and, at the same time, to enable perfect degaussing by mounting the degaussing section on parts of a case other than the one, into which a magnetic head is inserted and performing the degaussing by holding the case with hands. CONSTITUTION:A head case 26 is inserted into a head inserting chamber 33 at the rear section of the upper surface of a case and the protective piece 25 of a degaussing head section 21 is pressed against the peripheral surface of a capstan under this condition. Then the piece 25 is moved into the case 26 and an actuator 30 is driven by a moved core 22 and, as a result, the contact of a limit switch 29 is closed. When the contact is closed, an attenuating alternating voltage is produced from a degaussing signal generating circuit 12 and impressed upon the head section 21 where the alternating voltage is converted into an attenuating alternating magnetic field, and thus, the degaussing is performed.
