Tissue for a cardiovascular prosthesis. It comprises threads constituted by multiple filaments of a polymer material, which are woven and extend in two directions, having a large number of open interstitial spaces, which are of 20 to 40 microns, evenly distributed over the entire tissue, the elongation characteristic of the tissue having a region of easy elongation up to at least 10% in at least one of the said directions. During its production, the tissue is subjected to several operations of shrinkage by compression and of curling, intended to give it an anisotropic elastic flexibility approaching the mechanical characteristics of a natural tissue. The threads comprise curls situated in planes parallel to the tissue, and they spread out in the interstices of the woven material so as to make spaces promoting the growth of natural tissue.
