PURPOSE:To obtain the cationed cathode strong against ion impact with little sputtering and a heightened luminous reflection factor while improving a sputter- proof property when being taken into a display discharge tube where mercury vapor is sealed-in by forming a film made of aluminium on the cathode base BODY. CONSTITUTION:A cathode base body 2 is formed in a belt shape by etching a cathode material made up of an Fe-Ni alloy or an Fe-Ni-Cr alloy of about 200- 250mum, whereby conical through holes 4 are drilled on the parts to generate discharge when being operated while being taken into a display discharge tube, further an aluminium film 3 having the thickness of about 1-2mum is vacuum- evaporated on its surface. Through holes 12, 13 and 14 are drilled on the spacers 9, 10 and 11 respectively corresponding to the through holes 4 of the cathodes while forming discharge cells 15. By impressing voltage between the selected optional electrodes of a plural number of cathodes 1 and anodes 8, discharge is generated between the cathodes 1 and anodes 8 to make ions to collide with the cathodes 1 while generating the negative glow 16 inside the charge cells 15 but suppressing generation of sputtering through the strength against aluminium ions. |
