PURPOSE:To obtain the titled aqueous solution causing neither precipitaion of components nor gelatinization for a long period, by reacting an aqueous solution of KOH with a specific amount of Al(OH)3 so that a molar ratio of K2O/ Al2O3 and concentration of K2O+Al2O3 become specific values, respectively. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution of KOH is reacted with Al2O3 in an amount to give a molar ratio of K2O/Al2O3 of 0.6-1.5, 42-65wt% water concentration, and 16.5-29.5wt% K2O concentration at 55 deg.C, to prepare an aqueous solution of potassium aluminate having a molar ratio of K2O/Al2O3 of 1.0-1.5, and total concentration of K2O and Al2O3 of 35-50wt%. Potassium aluminate is worth notice with respect to high reactivity and high solubility as a general strong points of K salt, but a molar ratio of K2O/Al2O3 is smaller than 2 at present, and a stable aqueous solution having >=30wt% calculated as K2O.Al2O3.3H2O of K2O and Al2O3 content has not been obtained. The stable aqueous solution is obtained by the above-mentioned method, and it can be effectively used in uses utilizing gelatinization.
