In order that a front passenger seat equipped with a backrest can be swivelled past the instrument panel of a motor vehicle, the backrest thereof is initially swivelled forwards, the swivelling movement being combined with a sliding movement towards the rear, by a bracket swivellably accommodating the backrest being provided with a guide device and a displacement of the bracket together with the backrest being caused via a supporting lever arrangement.
