A portable power supply apparatus for mine workings and other regions where there is a risk of explosions combines the advantages of stationary power supply apparatuses and conventional portable intrinsically-safe accumulators for the power supply of measurement and analysis apparatuses. An electrical circuit arrangement (3) which is installed in the housing (1) of the accumulator has input connections (12, 13) for a rectified supply voltage, which is derived from a network or power supply. The circuit arrangement has at least two outputs (14, 15) of which a first (14) connects a predetermined limited voltage to the accumulator (2) as a charging voltage in the case of a current whose maximum is limited, and a second (15) supplies a supply voltage for the electrical apparatus (20), which supply voltage is reduced in comparison with the charging voltage, via a reduction circuit (16). At least one output (19, 19') of the accumulator (2) can be connected to an output (15, 22) of the power supply apparatus in parallel with the second output (15, 22) of the circuit arrangement (3), for the power supply of the electrical apparatus (20). <IMAGE>
