A false-ceiling element in the form of a continuous strip consisting of flexible material serves to be horizontally braced in a room in order to form, together with further similar false-ceiling elements, a false ceiling which conceals the overhead-structure design of the room. The strips forming the false ceiling have incisions which locally delimit strip regions which are normally located in the strip plane and can be moved out of this plane, in particular as a result of rising airstreams in the event of fire.
