PURPOSE:To provide the titled fluorescent material composed of a fluorescent material containing an iron compound of a VIIa-group metal as a main component, and doped with Mn (and Eu), having long afterflow and high luminance, and suitable for the CRT of a color monitoring TV having freely controllable fluorescent color. CONSTITUTION:The objective fluorescent material is represented by the formula (Me1-a-bMnaEub)F2 (Me is Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Zn or Cd; 1X10<-5=a<=1X10<-1>; 0<= b<=1X10<-1>). The fluorescent material can be prepared by calcining the mixture of raw materials in preferably a refractory alumina vessel at 600-1,000 deg.C for 1-5hr.
