PURPOSE:To obtain a receiver possible for error recovery of a reception data by applying error check in the unit of lines after a received picture data is expanded at each page and replacing a line having an error to an adjacent line having no error. CONSTITUTION:The received data is expanded at an expansion section 8 and then checked at each line by an error check section 18. When no error exists as the result of check, the data is compressed by a compression section 20, stored in a page data memory 10 of a storage section 9 and if any error exists, the line is replaced to a preceding line having no error by a replacing section 19 and fed to the storage section 9 while being compressed. When no fault exists in a recording system, the reception data stored in a page data memory 10 is read and after it is expanded by the expansion section 8, the result is recorded by a recording section 15.
