The invention relates to a shaft lead-through for high pressures up to a few kilobars, comprising a shaft and a stuffing box. In the region of the packing, the shaft according to the invention is composed of hard material and is generally supported on a widened portion. The packing according to the invention makes it possible to carry away the heat of friction which arises in it. For this reason, the packing is short and slim and made of pure plastics materials or of plastics materials arranged in combination which conduct heat relatively well and, if possible, are self-lubricating. The sealing and heat-generating surface can, in addition, be kept small by a conical arrangement. The packing can be cooled via the housing or via the low-pressure part of the shaft.
